Therapeutic massage is a specialized approach that focuses on promoting physical and mental well-being through targeted manual techniques. Practitioners of therapeutic massage deliver conscientious care by creating a safe and comfortable environment, tailoring their techniques to address the specific needs and preferences of each client. This involves a deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, and various massage modalities. Sensitivity to clients' needs involves effective communication to ascertain their goals and preferences, adjusting pressure, pace, and areas of focus accordingly. The goal of therapeutic massage is to enhance relaxation, relieve muscle tension, reduce stress, and potentially alleviate discomfort or pain, all while maintaining the utmost professionalism and ethical standards.

Acupuncture is a branch of Chinese Medicine that involves inserting fine needles through the skin at specific points to treat various health problems.

The classic Eastern explanation for how acupuncture works is that channels of energy or Qi (pronounced ‘chee’) run in regular patterns through the body and over its surface. These channels or meridians are like rivers flowing through the body to nourish the tissues. There are 14 major acupuncture meridians and each of these is believed to be associated with a particular part of the body. An obstruction or blockage in the movement of Qi creates imbalance and/or pain in the body and can lead to disease. By manipulating the needles in a certain way, the practitioner is able to bring energy to areas that are lacking or create flow in areas that are blocked, bringing a sense of balance back to the body. Most people feel very relaxed during and after the treatment.

Thai Massage explores both dynamic and static techniques to find balance between fluid movement and a place of stillness and calm. With a mindful approach developed through meditation and yoga we slow down and listen to the body, connecting to its natural rhythms: breath, heart, digestion, even cellular movement. The framework of Thai massage is based on energy lines – ‘sen’ – that run throughout the body. Massaging points along the 10 main lines can release blockages that cause pain and dysfunction and thus restore general well-being.

What to Expect
Thai Massage is done fully clothed on a mat on the floor using passive yoga-style stretching and pressure from palms, thumbs, feet and forearms along these energy lines. A meditative state is practiced by both recipient and practitioner, reflecting the spirit of Metta (loving kindness) and Vipassana (moment to moment awareness). Thai Massage can be adapted for individual needs, and is suitable for people of all ages, stiff or flexible, with chronic pain or leading active lives, injured or athletic. It is recommended to book a 1.5 hour session to receive the full benefits of Thai Massage.

PLEASE NOTE…If David is not available to book online please call or use his online waiting list indicating the days and times you are available, thanks!

Prior to becoming a massage therapist, David earned a degree in kinesiology from the esteemed University of Waterloo. He has been a massage therapist since 1994 having worked in multiple clinics until finally opening Keystone Massage Therapy Center in 2011 with his business partner and wife, Mary Sharland-Presta.

David describes his treatment style as technical, intuitive and methodical drawing on his academic experience and 30 years of massage practice.

His goal in treatments is to seek out areas of imbalance, usually in the way of tension and to discover patterns that may have developed due to poor movements, repetitive movements, injury and stress. To that end David also tries to recommend movements to help counter these patterns…so don’t be surprised if you get a little homework!

David’s interests are his family, nutrition and exercise….but a description of David would only be complete by mentioning his great love for the sport of soccer. He played at elite levels and continues his passion by coaching, both kids at the grass roots and senior players.

To schedule an appt with David please call the clinic at 289 396 4222.

*PLEASE NOTE: If you are wishing to book with Mary she is presently not available to book online so please call 289 396 4222 or use her online waiting list indicating the days and times you are available. Thank you!

In 2011, Mary and her husband David established Keystone Massage Therapy and endeavored to create a clinic environment that was both welcoming and professional. Over the last twelve years Keystone has grown to include other RMTs and practitioners who are experienced and exceptional in their field.

Mary is an accomplished Registered Massage Therapist with over 30 years experience in the field. Approaching her work inquisitively, she looks first to discover the concerns and goals of her clients and then thoughtfully applies the appropriate pressures, techniques and pace to pursue the desired outcome. Post treatment, she finds it helpful to provide specific self care as well as some personal insights so her clients can understand and potentially correct the root causes of their discomfort. With an emphasis on dissecting postural and movement patterns, Mary uses her well honed palpation skills to assess and treat areas of restriction and applies joint play to assess and mobilize stiffness in joints. This approach can provide a unique, effective massage experience and enables Mary to specialize in identifying and addressing the underlying causes of complicated pain syndromes as well as the more typical issues that can arise from injuries and the physical and mental stresses of daily life.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Mary finds solace and joy in the great outdoors, indulging her culinary passions, nurturing her garden, cherishing moments with her beloved family and sharing her life with her loyal canine companions.
